Randi Rhodes calls Hillary voters "white trash"

I hope Nova M Radio is happy with their new talk show host, the Left's own Rush Limbaugh. Randi Rhodes is a disgrace and an embarrassment to Democrats, and I can't imagine why any organization (political campaign or business) would want to be associated with her hate-filled rhetoric.

In the first five minutes of her show today, Randi let this one go:

"The Clinton campaign describes Hillary's voters as older, white, and undereducated. Or as we called them in my neighborhood: white trash."

Randi followed this, without a hint of irony or self-awareness, with a screed about how Hillary is an elitist (in part, because she loaned her campaign $5 million). Tell us more about elitism, Randi. How do "white trash" fit into your analysis?

I don't know if Randi Rhodes is helping or hurting Barack Obama, but I do know that she's hurting the Democratic Party with this kind of divisive, classist language. White trash? That's how she chooses to describe the majority of Democrats who voted in this year's primaries? I wouldn't be surprised if Randi finds herself back on the unemployment line soon.

No, politeness vs rudeness has nothing to do with Orwell. Everything to do with proper-vs-improper familiarity.

Someone can't be polite/rude/offensive to him/herself. Another person can however be polite/rude/offensive to them.

Therefore I can be offended by words you say to me, even though I would not be offended if I said the same things about myself.

Is this now plain enough for you to understand?

Really, the concept of improper familiarity is hardly a new one.

Re: What's your view of Taylor Marsh? (none / 0)

I believe I read somewhere she did some "vanity radio" on some small station, where she paid to be let on the air.

So, I guess you can say she's an ex-radio-host for certain values of "radio host".

Other than that, she's an intellectually dishonest, inconsistent hack. Internet's full of 'em.

Unfortunately, both Rhodes and Marsh attract the type of following that either doesn't care so long as they're on the "right" side, or their respective audience are so emotionally involved and caught up in the race that they can't recognize these people for what they really are.

That'd be fine if it wasn't they're helping drive the wedge in between the two "sides" that really do need to unite at some point, or we all pay the price.

The Catholic working class folks can't be called white trash (or at least, before the Clintons shipped off their jobs they couldn't). But those voters, at least all the ones I know (and I know quite a few) aren't too bright rewarding the folks that cost them their jobs. I blame the trauma of the loss)

However, an apology?  You are comparing it to the Ferraro issue, Clinton didn't apologize for that, and I wouldn't expect her to.

Re: Randi Rhodes is a (2.00 / 4)

I was litening to her before then. She was with Air America from the start, and she sucked from the start. Rude to guests, rude to callers, could never finish a coherent sentence without 15 digressions. Occasionally funny. I gave her a good long time to get better, but she only got worse. But some listeners really, really love her. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

But she got very sychophantic with "power" guests. OMG you should have heard her gushing over Bill Clinton when he called her show to plug for Kerry/Edwards. It was embarrasing. And I understand now suddenly this year she hates Bill Clinton. At least one of those two was an act.

Anyway, I agree that Obama does not have to apologize for her. That is Nova M's job now. They might think about hiring someone full time, as this is not the last time she will be shooting off her mouth.

On the other hand, asshats like Hannity and Limbaugh and their smaller market brethren play on.

That's where the real ignorant listeners are.

I totally believe Randi could do right wing radio. She could just have an epiphany, realize that Democrats are scum, and drop right into the lineup. She already has the spittle-flecked rant thing down pat, just change the names and a few details.

I'd like to think it's because we on the lefty side hold ourselves (and our talking heads) up to a higher standard than the rethugs do. I can't even fathom being on the same side of the aisle as Limbaugh, Hannity and the most noisome of them all, Glenn Beck.

Actually... I think she's more just a troll.

Complaining about her might actually be feeding the troll.

Whomever you support, do something positive for them instead with the time you'd spend complaining.

Just curious (2.00 / 0)

Is she saying these voters are white trash because they're older and less educated? If so, that's disgusting. Most people that generation had no chance to go to college.  They are FDR Democrats.

To be sure, however, there are "white trash" elements of the Democratic Party that we like to deny exist. 13% of white voters said race was very important and 75% voted for Hillary Clinton. Those voters would qualify as "white trash" regardless of their education level because they are racists. I'll say the same thing for the 8% of voters who said gender was very important and voted for Obama; they are male chauvinist pigs (and possibly white trash too).

ABC:

Clinton Wins Lackawanna With Only 74 Percent

April 23, 2008 6:53 AM

It really was a veritable stomping.

Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, pummelled Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, with keystone.

ABC News Political Director David Chalian reports that Obama only won seven of the state's 67 counties -- Philly, Delaware, Dauphin, Chester, Lancaster, Centre and Union.

He lost two key suburban Philadelphia counties he needed to win. Clinton won Montgomery County 51% to 49%; she won Bucks County 63% to 37%.

Clinton won Lackawanna County, the home of Obama-backing Sen. Bob Casey, with 74% to Obama's 26%.

Pretty pathetic.

I just glanced through the 7 pages of the exit polls for PA and what I saw showed not much difference on the income or education between the two.  From what I saw, true, Hillary had the less educated/lower income, but also did well among the more educated/higher income.  Compared to Obama, who is only doing well among a couple of distinct demographics.  Now, who are those of us Hillary supporters with advanced degrees and 6 figure incomes to judge all this.  We should leave it to the pro-Obama media spinmasters like former sportscasters and newsmodels and fired foul mouthed Air America hosts.

But then you can't really have it both ways - are Hillary supporters "white trash" or are they effete snobs?  The media's going to pick one.

And here's the bad news:  Once the general starts the media is going to depict whomever the Democratic candidate is as an effete snob.  Just like John Kerry and Al Gore.  We know this going in and STILL we serve up candidates who lend themselves to the portrayal.

Re: I don't think ... (2.00 / 0)

That's nice.. I thought it was bad enough when Republicans were trying to round up the intelligentsia and send them to gitmo... now, there are democrats who want to do it, too...

Nice to feel so loved in our own party... where are the educated people supposed to go, now that both the Republicans and half the democrats hate them for... well... going to college? Isn't that what we encourage our kids to do?

Hey, we're part of the base, too... I'd appreciate you not insulting us and throwing us away just yet... Someday, when the "new dealers" are dead nad gone, you're going to need the "horrible" creative class types to take their place...  or, maybe no one cares about the party's future anymore...

Re: Get over yourself (2.00 / 0)

Well, she certainly isn't pandering to us "creative class" types is she... I mean, if she wanted to go on drinking binges, maybe a beer bong could have gotten some of Obama's voters... ;-)

It won't matter.... if she manages to somehow take the nomination, she will be painted as an elitist like all Democrats are... no amount of boilermakers she drinks will prevent that from sticking, either...  she hasn't lived a middle class lifestyle in 30+ years, and the Republicans will use that against her in a big way...

So, then you can join us "elitists" at the Starbucks... I don't even drink coffee, BTW... nor do I drive a Volvo (I drive American cars)... or have opera tickets (couldn't afford them... most "creative class" types are poor, BTW)... am pretty middle class, and live in a working class neighborhood... just so you know...
